We’re proud to celebrate an exciting new chapter for Michael Bertozzi, brother of our CEO Paul Bertozzi, as he partners with Kimbal Musk to open The Kitchen in Austin, Texas! As Chef Partner and co-owner, Michael brings his culinary talent and leadership to Austin’s vibrant dining scene, introducing a unique farm-to-table experience that merges Southern roots with global flavors.
Michael’s journey to The Kitchen is both inspiring and impressive. Growing up in Jacksonville, Florida, Michael’s love for Southern cuisine was instilled by his Texas-native mother and grandmother. He further honed his skills at top restaurants like Atlanta’s TWO Urban Licks and Bully Boy, bringing a world of experience to every dish he creates. With a degree in Biomedical Sciences from Auburn University, he began “cooking his way through school,” developing a deep passion for food that ultimately defined his career.
Since joining The Kitchen in 2020, Michael has been pivotal in shaping its culinary direction, crafting a menu that combines locally sourced ingredients with global inspirations. Now, with his family’s recent move to Austin, Michael’s vision comes to life in a 2-story, 8,300 sq. ft. space at the base of Austin’s tallest tower, Sixth and Guadalupe. Here, guests can savor his unique recipes—ranging from Texas-sourced steaks to inventive small plates—in a swanky, Texas-chic setting.
Paul Bertozzi and the entire Live Oak community are incredibly proud to see Michael’s dedication and artistry recognized in such a dynamic way. We encourage all our friends and partners to stop by The Kitchen next time you’re in Austin to experience Michael’s culinary creativity firsthand. And for those who want to enjoy his recipes at home, you can order Kimbal Musk’s and Michael Bertozzi’s cookbook here.
Congratulations to Michael, Kimbal and his team—Austin’s dining scene just got even more exciting!
