Joe started his career in construction working as a mechanic’s helper with a metal fabricated building contractor in Atlanta, GA, while still in high school and when home for the summers from Shorter University in Rome, GA, where he received his BBA in Finance.
Shortly after graduating, he began working with The James Group as a project manager/estimator for interior build-out projects. While there, the company grew from a subcontractor to a full-fledged general contractor, and he moved over to the accounting side of the business.
In 2000, he earned his MBA from the University of Florida, and to demonstrate his knowledge in the industry, around 2003, he sat for and passed the Florida Building Contractors Exam.
Over the past 23 years, he has worked with contractors of various sizes, from several million to $300+ million in revenue per year, in the areas of multi-family housing, single family custom and production homes, and commercial construction. He has led several accounting system conversions and has been the driving force in improving the efficiency of processes and establishing standards of operation for not only the accounting department but the companies as a whole. He works to maintain his fingers constantly on the pulse of the business thru budgeting and cost reviews while guiding management with his understanding of financial statements and cash flows.
